AAUW advances equity through advocacy, education, and research.

Scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors

Each year, the AAUW Milwaukee Branch awards over $40,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from Milwaukee Public Schools who are prepared for the rigor of a college education, but have financial need. The applicant must be be accepted at an accredited University or College (2 or 4 years) in Southeast Wisconsin. Anyone may apply. Scholarship awardee(s) are provided AAUW membership.

*Given our four-year commitment to our scholars, we do not anticipate accepting new College Women's Club Foundation scholarship applications again until 2027.

Girls' Club Grants for the Continuation of Higher Education

To help women whose college studies have been interrupted, the AAUW awards the Girls Club Grant. Applicant must be a woman who has experienced at least a one-year absence from regular enrollment and matriculation processes or is presently enrolled with at least sophomore status in an accredited College/University based in the Greater Milwaukee area. Awardee(s) are provided AAUW membership.

RECENT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Yajayra Ayala

As a student at Hamilton High School, Yajayra participated in the Hispanic Club, Multicultural Club, and GEAR UP Pre-College Program. A strong student, she also served as a Classroom Monitor and earned the Seal of Biliteracy, a recognition given by the State of Wisconsin to students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. Outside of school, she has volunteered with Holiday Folk Fair International. Yajayra is now studying at Mount Mary University where she is participating in Compass Year, a one-year career exploration program for freshmen, before declaring her major.

Sang Cung

Throughout his time at Hamilton High School, Sang was highly involved in athletics, participating on the Soccer Team (for which he served as Varsity Captain), Tennis Team, and Volleyball Club, all while maintaining a 3.5 GPA. He also participated in the Gear Up and College Possible Pre-College Programs. Outside of school, he has volunteered for many years with his church’s youth programming and camps, including serving as a teaching assistant for classes on his native language (Chin Hakha). Sang is now studying Computer Science & Business at Marquette University.

Fatima Fofana

While a student at Reagan High School, Fatima participated in Basketball, Track, Black Student Union, and National Honors Society. She also participated in her school’s chapter of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), which helps students with an interest in health professions learn about career opportunities, gain experience, and develop an understanding of current healthcare issues. This led to her interest in the nursing field and job as a Caregiver in an assisted living community. She is now studying Nursing at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.

Ash May

As a student at Milwaukee School of Languages, Ash served as Lighting & Sound Manager for Stage Crew, Editor of the Yearbook, and a member of Painting Club and the Track & Field Team. Academically, they participated in the German Immersion program, studied Japanese as an elective, volunteered as a Japanese Classroom Monitor, and earned the Seal of Biliteracy, a recognition given by the State of Wisconsin to students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. Outside of the classroom, they volunteered with the Special Olympics and Gathering of Southeast Wisconsin. Ash is now studying Studio Art & Theatre Arts at the University of Wisconsin – Parkside.

Van Zi

While a student at Reagan High School, Van was Captain of the Volleyball and Soccer teams, Board Member of Asian Student Union, a Link Crew Leader and a member of Student Council.  She also volunteered as a teacher and volleyball/soccer coach in her church’s summer youth program. Due to her interest in health care, she obtained her CNA license and currently works in an assisted living community. Van is now studying Biological Science at Marquette University.
